FAQs for all Users

Q: How much does it cost to sign up to GalleryGift?

A: There is no cost for any GalleryGift Users- free for all members, artists and galleries!

Q: How do I close my account?

A: Just contact GalleryGift at contact@gallerygift.com.au and we will delete your account for you.

Q: Are my personal details and credit/debit card information kept safe?

A: We are just as concerned about security and the cyber safety of our Users as you are and have taken every measure we can to ensure all your personal information is kept safe. For more information on our site security, click here.

Q: What if I’m not happy or change my mind about the artwork once it arrives?

A: We want you to be 100% happy with your purchase and offer unlimited returns until you are. Please check our Satisfaction Guarantee here and Returns Policy here for more details.

Q: What exactly does original mean in terms of artwork?

A: Original artworks are pieces that have been created by the artist’s own hand and from his or her own thoughts and references. Copyright in art is a complex area and for more information you can go here and here.

Q: Are all the artworks on GalleryGift original pieces?

A: All artworks on GalleryGift are made by an artist and are handmade originals, limited editions prints or limited edition reproductions of the artists original work or photograph. This means that you will always be the only person in the world to own that particular piece or one of very few if you have chosen a limited edition.

* Limited edition prints are using a template an artist has created with their own hand to create a replica or series such as lino, woodblock, silk screen, lithograph.

Q: What is a “Reproduction”?

A: Art reproductions are a cost effective way of owning an artwork that you love even if the original is beyond your reach. A reproduction is a printed respresentation or copy of an original artwork. An artist has created an artwork and had a certain number of reproductions or prints created from it. The fewer the number of prints, the more valuable each reproduction will be.

Q: Can I buy an artwork from GalleryGift without having to be given it or have a CoFund?

A:  Absolutely! In all other aspects GalleryGift functions just like any other online gallery, we just have the added bonus of creating CoFunds and focusing on the giving of art.

Q: What does ‘commission an artwork’ mean?

A: If you commission an artwork it simply means you are ordering a specially made artwork from an artist. You describe what you would like and come to an agreement with your chosen artist before they create it for you.

Q: Can I choose an artwork FOR someone?

A: Absolutely! We have actually made this option really easy for you by allowing members to create a Gift List. If they have enabled this option you can just go to their profile (go to Member Search in your profile), choose a piece from their Gift List and have it delivered to them, or even better deliver it to them yourself! Alternatively you can just choose an artwork for them and let them know that they are welcome to exchange it (it can be quite difficult choosing artwork for somebody!) or a gift voucher is a good option too.

Q: When do I have to choose an artwork by?

A: Whether you have been given a CoFund or a gift voucher, we allow 3 years and 3 months for you to select and purchase an artwork. For CoFunds, the time starts at the CoFunds cut-off date (which is also when you receive the emailed notification) and for Gift Vouchers it starts at the time that the voucher is purchased. We have extended the three year expiry so in case you receive another GalleryGift voucher or CoFund for your future birthday/anniversary/Christmas present etc. you can add this to your existing voucher/s.

Q: What if I don’t like any of the artworks available?

A: Did you know that you can use your CoFund money to purchase an artwork from participating galleries? If you can’t see something online that you like you could always take yourself (and some friends) on a gallery tour OR commission a specially made artwork for yourself from one of our artists. Our collection of artists is continually growing but there may be occasions where you have a CoFund or voucher that is approaching its use-by-date and you still haven’t chosen “the one”. Just get in touch and let us know what’s happening, we will work out a solution for you.

Q: What if I like an artwork that costs less than what I have in my CoFund?

A: You are welcome to use part of your CoFund to purchase an artwork. After the purchase you will receive an email telling you what the remaining amount left on your CoFund or gift voucher is.  You can continue to do this as many times as you like as long as it has been spent within the 3 years and 3 months expiry date. We are not in the business of keeping your money, we are in the business of helping people to give and receive original art. We will do everything we can to help yourself or the person you gift a voucher to, find an artwork they love but if you or they still don't find something, we are happy to discuss the options of refunding the remainder or full amount of the voucher. Our guarantee to you- find something you/they love, or your money back!

Q: What if I like an artwork that costs more than I have in my CoFund?

A: This one is easy - after using the CoFund to pay for part of the artwork, just use one of the other payment methods to pay for the remainder.

Q: Can I contribute to a CoFund that I haven’t been invited to?

A: The only way to contribute to a CoFund is via the link that the CoFund Creator receives. As long as someone you know gives you the link you are able to contribute to any CoFund.

Q: Will the recipient know that I have contributed to their CoFund and how much?

A: Yes, the recipient will be given a notification listing the names of all Contributors, the messages they have written and the amount contributed, unless you choose to keep the amount anonymous (they will still see your name).

Q: I’d like to use my CoFund to buy an artwork from an artist that isn’t on GalleryGift, is there anything I can do?

A: Please let us know! If we agree that they should be part of our team we will contact them directly and invite them on board. Or find out when and where they are having an exhibition next and you could use your CoFund to purchase a piece through that gallery when it’s on.

Q: How can I be sure the artwork will arrive before the big day?

A: The answer to this question is that both GalleryGift and the artist selling the artwork will do everything we can to get your artwork to you as soon as possible but if you are needing it by a specific date we urge you to arrange it as early as you can to be sure. We won’t always be in control of how long delivery takes and it can also be very difficult for artists to know how long a piece will take to create (if you have ordered a commission), depending on the nature of the piece and experience of the artist, so always err on the side of getting it well in advance if it is needed for a certain occasion.

Q: Why do I have to wait to get a quote for delivery of some artworks?

A: For most artworks the delivery cost will be displayed automatically however for very large pieces we will need to arrange custom delivery. After requesting a delivery quote you will receive a quote via email between afew hours and 3 business days.

Q: Is the artwork insured when being sent?

A: All artworks under $100.00 are automatically insured. For anything above $100.00 you have  a choice to add transit cover or not. If you have purchased transit cover and it is damaged in transit, please let us know ASAP and we will organise a replacement or refund for you.

Q: Can I contact artists directly?

A: Absolutely! That’s why we have an inbuilt messaging system so you can get fast responses to any questions about the artist or their work. GalleryGift monitors the message service but as long as you keep it purely professional your questions are always welcome.

Q: Can I organise an artwork from an artist without going through GalleryGift?

A: We have not restricted artists from selling their work on other platforms while also being represented on GalleryGift, so you may be able to arrange this privately. However, while using the service of GalleryGift, it is in our terms and conditions that GalleryGift artists and buyers do not organise sales privately. Besides this, by buying through GalleryGift we are an important insurance for you because we offer unlimited returns, warranty on deliveries and a money back guarantee until you have the one you love. Buying privately from an artist leaves both the buyer and artist vulnerable to complications.

Q: What if I live outside of Australia?

A: GalleryGift provides a great opportunity for friends and family all over the world to easily contribute to a CoFund or give a voucher to a loved one. We use PayPal as our sales merchant so payments will adjust accordingly to whatever currency you use.

Initially we are focusing on local, Australian artists but there is also nothing stopping us from continuing to expand. If you are oustide of Australia and want to become a GalleryGift artist or want to buy an artwork outright, you are most welcome to go right ahead!
